For those of you who know the apprentice Maria Nuzzi, her husband died suddenly this week. She's handling things as well as can be expected, but it's a rough time for her. The family has requested donations to the school in lieu of flowers; if you want more info, let me know. I'm sure the school would pass on condolences to her as well.
One of our graduate teams was struck by a bus in Montreal. Denise Migneault and her guide dog Reggie were killed last week as they crossed a street downtown. I've asked Barrie at the school what the GDF community can do to help out Denise's family and friends, and she says she'll get back to me. If I may interject my own opinion here, the press in the Montreal area is being less than sympathetic in their coverage of the story, and I hear the local disabled organizations haven't been much better. (I can't speak for the French-speaking press, actually; they may have done a better job). In any case, be careful out there, folks!
From the GDF-Talk mailing list:
We're planning on having the first GDF Talk list conference call starting today, March 11 at 3:00 pm Eastern, 2:00 Central, 1:00 Mountain and Noon Pacific.
To Join the conference:
1. Call 712-580-1888.
2. Press #2.
3. When the system prompts you for the conference code, enter GDFTALK, followed by the Pound key.
Numerically, this is 4338255 plus the pound key.
The system will tell you if there are other callers present, if you are the first to arrive, you'll hear music until a second caller dials in.
This is a free service, so there are no additional charges, other than those through your Long Distance Carrier or Cell phone provider.
I'm not sure if I'll be there or not. I was supposed to do the Wally World thing today, but we've gotten almost six inches of rain here over the past 48 hours, so it will depend on my ride's ability to maneuver through the massive amount of flood water.
I think this will be a neat way for us to chat interactively and put a voice to those E-mail screen names.
Hope to hear you all there!
I may not make it this time around, but I'll be on in future calls.
